Dr. Michael Martinez completed his undergraduate degree at Providence College and majored in biology as part of the school’s pre optometry program. Through this program, Dr. Martinez gained early admittance to the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, where he completed his doctorate in Optometry. Dr. Martinez gained clinical experience within Boston area community health centers, where he was trained in primary eye care, contact lenses, ocular disease, and pediatrics. Dr. Martinez also obtained advanced ocular disease training with a retinal ophthalmologist at New England Eye. He completed further extensive hospital based training at the VA medical center in Providence, RI.
Dr. Martinez is certified by the National Board of Examiners in Optometry to practice comprehensive optometry, including the use of diagnostic and therapeutic agents for the treatment and management of ocular disease. Dr. Martinez is currently a member of the American Optometric Association and the Rhode Island Optometric Association. He is also a member of the eye care POD for the Rhode Island Primary Care Physician Corporation (RIPCPC).
Dr. Martinez is the lead coordinator for Advanced Eye Care’s community vision screening program. He visits elementary and middle schools in Providence each month during the school year to evaluate students vision.
